Dr. T. Kishen Kumar Reddy is currently Director i/c (Research & Development) - J N T University Hyderabad. He is also member - Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-A.P Chapter – Panel for Small and Medium Scale Industries and Panel for Industry-Academia Interaction (2007 & 2008).
He earned the B.E. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Osmania University in First Class with Distinction in 1978. He completed M.Tech with specialization in Heat Transfer and Thermal Power Engineering from IIT Madras in 1980. He received his M.S and Ph.D degrees in Thermal Fluid Sciences from Drexel University, USA during 1983 and 1987, respectively. His doctoral work pertained to a NASA project on Jet Fuel Thermal Stability. He worked as a Lecturer at Drexel University, USA from 1983 to 1987 and as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at Southern Illinois University, USA during 1988. He has served as Associate Professor, Professor and Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department (twice), JNTU College of Engineering, Hyderabad during his tenure in JNTU from 1994 to 2009. He has guided one doctoral candidate and is presently guiding five Ph.D. candidates and one M.S. candidate through research.
Dr. Reddy completed a three year deputation during 2002-2005 as Advisor, All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi, and a statutory body responsible for regulating, planning and promoting technical education in the country. At AICTE, Prof. Reddy held charge of the Research and Institutional Development Bureau which is responsible for disbursing about Rupees 450-500 million annually which is approximately 60% of AICTE budget. Additionally, he also worked in the Bureau of UG Education.
Prof. Reddy has worked in industry as well. He served in Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Marketing) at Chennai, worked in National Thermal Power Corporation, New Delhi (as Operation and Maintenance Engineer) and as a CSIR Pool Officer at Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Limited Corporate R & D Centre, Vadodara, Gujarat. Thus, he has a blend of academia, administrative and industry experience.
Prof. Reddy has published several papers in international journals, one NASA report and has presented about 20 papers in international and national conferences. His research citations include those from General Motors, Michigan, USA and Stanford Research Institute, California, USA. He has guided one doctoral student and about 35 M.Tech projects and currently five students are registered under him for Ph.D and one student for M.S. His areas of expertise are Thermodynamics, Fuels, Heat Transfer, CFD and Alternative Energy Utilization.
He is a member of: The Indian Society for Technical Education, Combustion Institute (Indian Chapter) and The Indian Society of Mechanical Engineers. He is on the Advisory board of the Dept. of Science & Technology – NST Entrepreneurship Development Scheme, New Delhi.
He was a member of several National Committees dealing with promotion of Research in Academic Institutions and in consortiums dealing with Academia - Industry partnerships. He was a member of the Board of Governors of: National Institutes of Technology – Jalandhar and Jamshedpur and also the National Technical Teachers Training Institute & Research, Chandigarh.
Dr. Reddy was an avid sportsman having represented the State of Andhra Pradesh in Handball (twice), Osmania University in Basketball (once), and IIT Madras in Athletics, Basketball and Cricket. He was awarded the Silver Medal in Javelin throw during Inter IIT Meet held at New Delhi, 1979.
